Effective Prayer Simplified

Pray with Ruth using the Lord’s Prayer 5Ps Framework

Do you desire to pray but struggle to remain consistent? I invite you to use this prayer guide shaped by the Lord’s Prayer 5Ps Framework: Praise, Purpose, Provision, Pardon, and Protection. It offers a simple framework, not a prescription, to help you structure your daily prayer time. This framework has transformed my own prayer life, and I pray it will do the same for you.

A special feature of this guide is that each day of the week includes a specific intercession focus to help you pray for others as well. As you pray, imagine us praying together, you and I as prayer companions, lifting our hearts to God and communing with Him in His presence.

Tuesday Prayers

Focus: Families

Designed by Rev Ruth Musembi for personal or group prayers.

Let’s pray: In our Tuesday prayers today, in addition to praying for our needs, we will intercede for families: Parents, guardians, and their children. We will pray guided by the Lord’s Prayer 5P’s Framework.

1. Praise Prayers — Matthew 6:9

We begin our prayers with praise, adoration, and thanksgiving. Our God is all-powerful (omnipotent), all-knowing (omniscient), and present everywhere at all times (omnipresent). There is nothing too difficult for Him, nothing He does not know, and nowhere His presence cannot be felt. These are just some of His many attributes, which we can recite back to God as we praise and adore Him. Before we praise God, take a moment to meditate on the scripture below, or even read it aloud.

“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.” — Psalm 107:1

“Your faithfulness continues through all generations; You established the earth, and it endures.” — Psalm 119:90

Guided Prayer:

  • “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.”— Matthew 6:9

  • Gracious Lord, we give You thanks, for You are good, and Your love endures forever.
You are all-powerful, all-knowing, and ever-present. Your faithfulness has sustained generations, and it sustains us today. Receive our praise and gratitude.
  • Father, we thank You for spiritual blessings — for Your faithfulness, goodness, love and compassion, for forgiveness, healing, and for protection from all manner of danger. (Psalm 107:1)

  • We also thank You for every material provision You have given us — for daily bread, shelter, strength to work, and resources entrusted to us by Your gracious hand. (Psalm 107:1; Psalm 119:90)

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Note: Feel free to add your own praise and thanksgiving prayer points

2. Purpose Prayers - Prayer for God's Kingdom — Matthew 6:10

Now, let’s pray for Kingdom advancement, and let’s surrender our will and ways so that God can have his way. First, take a moment to meditate on the Scripture below or even read it aloud.

14For this reason, I fall on my knees before the Father,15from whom every family in heaven and on earth receives its true name.16I ask God from the wealth of his glory to give you power through his Spirit to be strong in your inner selves,17and I pray that Christ will make his home in your hearts through faith. I pray that you may have your roots and foundation in love,18so that you, together with all God’s people, may have the power to understand how broad and long, how high and deep, is Christ’s love.19Yes, may you come to know his love—although it can never be fully known—and so be completely filled with the very nature of God.

20To him who by means of his power working in us is able to do so much more than we can ever ask for, or even think of:21to God be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus for all time, forever and ever! Amen – Ephesians 3:14–21

Guided Prayers:

  • “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” — Matthew 6:10
  •  Father, strengthen us with power through Your Spirit in our inner being, so we may walk in Your purpose with endurance and spiritual strength. (Ephesians 3:16)
  • Lord Jesus, dwell in our hearts through faith, shaping our thoughts, decisions, and direction according to Your will. (Ephesians 3:17a)
  • Root and ground us in love, that our lives and service may flow from Christ’s love and not from striving. (Ephesians 3:17b)
  • Help us grasp the breadth, length, height, and depth of Christ’s love, and fill us with all the fullness of God, trusting You to do far more than we can ask or imagine. (Ephesians 3:18–20)

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

3. Provision Prayers — Matthew 6:11

Having prayed for Kingdom matters, let’s now ask God to meet our needs as we also intercede for others. On Tuesdays, we intercede for families: Parents/guardians and their children. Of course, we start by praying for our needs and those of our immediate family.

Before you pray, take a moment to meditate on the scripture below, or even read it aloud. It will build your faith to believe God for whatever needs you may have today.

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? … you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. — Matthew 6:25-34

Personal Prayers:

  • “Give us this day our daily bread.” — Matthew 6:11

Personal Prayers: Begin by using your personal prayer list to bring your needs and the needs of your family before God. Take your time. Pray boldly and pour out your heart to Him, trusting that He hears and cares.  After completing your personal prayers, return here to join in the guided intercessions for parents/guardians & their children.

Intercession Prayers for Parents/Guardians & their Children

  • Father, we intercede for parents and guardians; grant them divine wisdom to nurture children in Your ways and provide solutions to the parenting challenges they face.

  • We pray that you teach parents to correct with love and not provoke through words or actions; provide for their needs, turn children’s hearts toward their parents, and increase love and understanding within families. (Ephesians 6:4; Malachi 4:6)

  • Father, we pray that children will fear You, love wisdom, and value godly instruction above trends and peer approval. (Proverbs 1:7–9)

  • Lord, give our children discernment to reject sinful enticement, harmful peer pressure, violence, and dishonest paths, choosing what is right even when it is costly. (Proverbs 1:10–19)

  • Deliver our children from carelessness, complacency, and spiritual indifference; awaken them from apathy and false security, and help them choose wisdom with an eternal perspective. (Proverbs 1:32)

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

4. Pardon Prayers — Matthew 6:12

It is now time to confess our sins, forgive others, and pray for restored relationships. As we confess, let us acknowledge sins of commission (doing what is sinful) and omission (failing to do what we know is right). Be sincere and repentant, and do not fear; God promises to forgive when we confess (as we also forgive others).

In this prayer, we also ask for grace to forgive, remembering that if we refuse to forgive, we hinder our own forgiveness and invite torment until we forgive fully. If you are struggling to forgive a specific person, ask God to help you.

Finally, we need to pray for healing and restoration in broken relationships, mentioning any specific relationships the Lord brings to mind.

Before you pray, take a moment to meditate on the Scriptures below, or read them aloud.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins.” — 1 John 1:9 and Matthew 6:15 “But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”

Guided Prayers:

  • “Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.” — Matthew 6:12
  • Prayer of Confession and Forgiveness –Father, I confess my sins of commission, where I have done what is sinful; and my sins of omission, where I have failed to do what I know is right. I turn away (repent) from these sins and ask for Your forgiveness. Cleanse me, renew me, and restore me.  I trust in Your promise that when I confess my sins, You are faithful and just to forgive me and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9; Matthew 6:14)

  • Prayer for Grace to Forgive Others –Lord Jesus, You forgave us freely and fully, at the great cost of giving up Your life. Today, I choose to obey your command to forgive others as You have forgiven me. I pray for the strength to forgive those who have hurt, offended, or disappointed me because it is not easy; put your love in my heart so that it will be possible to forgive. Release me from resentment, bitterness, anger, and judgment and fill my heart instead with love, compassion, and understanding. (Ephesians 4:32; Colossians 3:13)

  • Prayer for Healing, Unity, and Restoration of Broken Relationships –God of peace, we bring before You every broken relationship within families, marriages, friendships, and communities. Where there is division, bring unity; where there is misunderstanding, bring clarity; and where there is pain, bring healing. Let love win over strife, and restore peace and unity where it has been lost. I trust You to rebuild what has been broken and to make all things new. Help me become a “repairer of the breach” and an agent of healing and hope for broken relationships, much like Jesus did. (Psalm 147:3; Romans 12:18)

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen

5. Protection Prayers — Matthew 6:13

As we conclude our prayers today, take time to ask God to protect you from temptation. Scripture reminds us that temptation often arises from our own desires, so ask the Lord to align your desires with His Word and to strengthen you to resist every pull toward evil. We are also called to pray daily for God’s protection and deliverance, knowing that we do not face spiritual battles alone. When we pray this way, we have no reason to fear the schemes of the enemy. Though many live in fear, we stand in confidence as believers, because Jesus has already defeated the devil through the cross and made a public spectacle of him. Our responsibility is to stand firm in this truth, holding fast to God’s Word and living from a place of victory. Before we pray, take a moment to meditate on the Scriptures below, or read them aloud.

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” (Proverbs 4:23). "No weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed, and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD and their vindication from me, declares the LORD.” (Isaiah 54:17).

Guided Prayers:

    • “And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one.” — Matthew 6:13

    • Prayer for Strength to Overcome Temptation – Faithful God, I/we ask You to guard my heart from temptation. Where my/our own desires seek to lead me/us away from Your will, align them with Your Word. When I/we are tested, provide the way of escape You have promised, and strengthen me/us to resist every pull toward sin. Teach me/us to rely on Your grace daily, standing firm in obedience and trust.(1 Corinthians 10:13; James 1:14–15; Psalm 119:11)

    • Prayer for Deliverance – Lord Jesus, I/we thank You for the victory You secured on the cross. I/We ask for Your protection and deliverance from every scheme of the devil. Keep me/us alert and grounded in truth, free from fear and intimidation. Help me/us to stand firm in faith, knowing that the enemy is already defeated and has no authority over our lives.(Colossians 2:15; James 4:7; 1 Peter 5:8–9).

    • According to Isaiah 54:17, I/we silence every negative word spoken against me/us and speak life in every area of my life and in the lives of my/our loved ones.

Conclude your prayers with this benediction: For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power and the glory for ever and ever. Amen.
